The Missouri Department of Conservation has two positions available for a Fisheries Management Biologist; one each in Springfield and West Plains, Missouri.

SALARY RANGE: Annually $35,724 to $62,952. Beginning salary will be $35,724 to $41,748 depending on qualifications.

Under the direction of the Fisheries Regional Supervisor, prepares management plans, fishery status reports, operational project plans, special project reports for public streams, annual fishing prospects, news releases, responses to public information requests, and other written communications as required. Assists in budget preparation and is responsible for implementation of an annual operational work plan.

Position Overview:
Whole Foods Market, Midwest Region, is seeking an Associate Coordinator (Assistant District Manager) for the Seafood Department. The Seafood Associate Coordinator is a store-based regional support position that is designed to extend the range and frequency of store contact and regional support. A successful candidate must be versatile and experienced in a broad range of retail skill sets. Priorities in this position include but are not limited to training, staff development, growing comparative sales, competition review and analysis, and increasing department net profitability. The Associate Coordinator will be charged with further refining the Seafood Team Leader position and training of skilled TM's and Leaders and the tools that help this group succeed. Assist with opening new stores in conjunction with the coordinator and STL. This position reports to the regional Seafood Coordinator but carries the authority of the coordinator position in the field.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Will Do:

  1. Roll up sleeves and maintain a highly visible store presence.
  2. Lots of driving and store contact.
  3. Team Building - training, educating, mentoring.
  4. Troubleshoot margin and labor problems.
  5. Train Seafood teams about environmental issues.
  6. Assist with rollout of regional marketing programs and follow-through at the stores.
  7. Assist in the hiring and training of department level leadership.
  8. Focus on improving retail operating systems (team leadership, staff structure.)
  9. Assist in closing the product feedback loop from the stores to the source (improve quality).
  10. Assist in maintaining and improving retail standards for region.
  11. Make sure that stores follow through and use regional resources.
  12. Assist in management of the relationship between regional coordinator and the stores.
  13. Oversee and be available for the Seafood TL and Regional Coordinator.
  14. Maintain Store Team Leader communications.
  15. Assist in developing weekly product and merchandising strategies for stores.
  16. Track trends and activities in the Midwest retail market place, continual competitive analysis.
  17. Assist in vender relationships.
  18. Assist in store openings, resets, and remodels.
  19. Champion of regional program and store issues.
  20. Assists in special projects as defined by the regional coordinator.

Must Have/Be:

  1. Outstanding quality and performance standards.
  2. Five or more years experience in all aspects of the Seafood trade.
  3. The highest merchandising skills and retail standards.
  4. Experience with equipment, fixtures and store design.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. An understanding of margin management systems.
  7. An understanding of marketing theory.
  8. Experience with human resource management.
  9. Exceptional organizational skills.
  10. Reliable transportation.
  11. Computer Skills in Word and Excel a plus.
  12. Travel a must, willing to travel and be away from home for extended periods.
  13. Conceptual understanding of the seafood industry as it moves forward.

M081-08 GULF OF MEXICO SHRIMP FISHERIES IMPROVEMENT PARTNERSHIP (FIP) COORDINATOR 

Background:
The mission of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership www.sustainablefish.org is to maintain healthy ocean ecosystems, enhance fishing livelihoods and secure food supplies. The Partnership improves access to information to guide responsible seafood sourcing, and enhances the ability of seafood companies and partners to influence government fisheries policies and management practices to improve fisheries.

SFP works to improve fisheries through Fisheries Improvement Partnerships (FIPs). A FIP is a collaboration between retailers, their suppliers, and NGO advisors that aims to influence government policies and management practices and improve marine conservation and the sustainability of an individual fishery. SFP and partners are launching FIPs for the Gulf of Mexico Shrimp fisheries.

Role:
The SFP is looking for a high calibre individual to assist in running these FIPs and represent SFP on Gulf of Mexico Shrimp fisheries. The position is expected to be based in the United States, preferably in Gulf of Mexico (Texas, Louisiana).

The job is to:

    • Strengthen working relations with key local shrimp companies and NGOs.
    • Forge agreements on what improvements are needed in the fishery.
    • Work with the FIP members to develop policy briefs and advocacy strategies.
    • Implement agreed priority actions effectively and on time.
    • Provide briefings to SFP leadership for use in meeting buyers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 5 years experience working in the seafood industry, preferably in the Gulf of Mexico.
  2. Bachelors degree required in fisheries science and/or fisheries management or candidate can demonstrate equivalent practical experience.
  3. Excellent oral and written English.
  4. Excellent communication and organization skills.
  5. Ability to work in a flexible, informal environment, and to take the initiative and work as part of a team as well as independently.
  6. Willing to spend up to 30% of his/her time outside on ones homebase.
  7. Ability and willingness to travel by car and plane nationally and sometimes internationally to remote locations.

The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated leadership in improving fisheries management and marine conservation, and have good relations with the leading companies.
